Sean & Jess | The Saddle Room Wedding, Leyburn
I'll be honest with you, Sean and Jess — I didn't sleep brilliantly the night before your wedding.
I'd checked the forecast for The Saddle Room about four times and it kept saying the same thing: rain, all day, no gaps. You'd booked that venue for the views, for the lawns, for that gorgeous outdoor ceremony — and I lay awake genuinely trying to work out how I was going to make it work for you if the heavens opened from start to finish.
And then the day came, and somehow, against every single odds, you two turned out to be the luckiest unlucky couple I have ever photographed. Confetti, outside. Family portraits, outside. Couple photos wandering down that beautiful tree-lined driveway, outside. The sky was grey and heavy the entire time, but not one drop fell while the camera was out. I still don't quite know how we managed it.
Jess looked sensational — a sleek, sweetheart-neckline gown with the most perfect leg split, and an elegant cathedral veil that did all the work in the portraits under those huge old trees. Sean was effortlessly cool in black tie, and that black-and-white shot of the two of you on the steps of the manor house, with those slightly unsettling garden statues looming behind you, might be one of my favourites of the year.
The ceremony took place inside rather than on the lawns as planned, but if anything it made for an even more intimate, candlelit feeling — and nobody in that room was thinking about the weather once Sean caught sight of Jess walking in. That total stillness on his face says everything.
Then came the reception, and oh, what a reception. Bongo Bingo had the whole barn absolutely buzzing — genuinely one of the loudest, most joyful dance-floor-adjacent games I've ever shot a couple have at their wedding. And then came the speeches that had me properly welling up behind the camera. That doesn't happen often. It happened here.
Sean and Jess — thank you for trusting me with your day, weather chaos and all. You two made it so easy to find the joy in it, and I'm so glad I get to share even a little taste of what an incredible day it was.
Congratulations, Mr and Mrs — here's to many sunnier days ahead. 🤍
