Tammy & Piero — Bamburgh Castle Wedding, Northumberland
Well, my first ever wedding at Bamburgh Castle, and I really, really hope it's not my last. Wow!
Tammy and Piero, where do I even start with you two? I had the loveliest little road trip up to Northumberland to photograph your wedding day, working alongside such brilliant team, Weddings in Northumberland and Bamburgh Castle staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
Bamburgh Castle is one of those places that photos genuinely don't do justice to — and I say that as someone whose entire job is taking photos. It's dramatic, it's ancient, it's perched right up on the coastline like it's daring the North Sea to try something. And on the day we had it, that sea absolutely tried something. The wind was WILD. Properly, hold-onto-your-hat, is-my-tripod-going-to-take-flight levels of wind.
But do you know what? Everyone was an absolute pro about it — the couple, the guests, and most impressively, the animals. They didn’t care.
Because yes, this was a full house on the animal front. We had Highland cows, a pair of gorgeous Welsh ponies , and the most opinionated dog I think I've ever photographed, who spent most of the day looking like he'd rather be literally anywhere else and somehow made himself look very regal. Honestly, dog plus cows plus horses plus a castle — that's a Claire Hirst wedding right there.
Tammy, that invitation set the tone perfectly — "Holy Cow, we are getting married" — and Piero, the way you two looked at each other kissing in that castle doorway, wind absolutely wreaking havoc on Tammy's hair, is just iconic.
The ceremony itself had such a lovely intimate warmth to it, tucked inside all that incredible stonework and those centuries-old tapestries — a real contrast to the wild, wide-open drama of the dunes later on. Getting to capture both sides of that in one day was such a treat.
Tammy and Piero, thank you for having me, thank you for being such total troopers when that wind had other ideas, and huge thanks too to everyone who helped pull the day together and kept us all on track. I hope your wedding day was everything you dreamed it would be — congratulations, you two!
