The Ceremony | St Mary's Church, Bolton on Swale

The day began with Sophie and Lee saying their vows at the beautiful St Mary's Church in Bolton on Swale — a stunning historic church nestled in the North Yorkshire countryside and the most perfect traditional setting for such a wonderful couple. The church was full of emotion, happy tears, and that magical buzz that only comes when two people who are absolutely made for each other finally tie the knot. From the gorgeous stone architecture to the warm atmosphere inside, St Mary's set the tone for an absolutely unforgettable day.

Welcome to the Farm

From the church, guests made their way to the farm for the marquee reception — and what a setting it was. The marquee was beautifully dressed with lush greenery, gorgeous florals, and that warm, relaxed atmosphere that only a working farm in the North Yorkshire countryside can deliver. There's something so wonderfully grounding about celebrating on a real, working farm — surrounded by open fields, fresh air, and the kind of beauty that you simply can't manufacture.

The Star Guests — Mavis & Friends 🐄🐴🚜

Now, I've photographed a lot of weddings. I've seen a lot of surprises. But nothing and I mean nothing, quite prepared me for the moment that Mavis arrived.

Mavis, for those who don't already know her, is a highland cow. A magnificent, gloriously fluffy, utterly iconic highland cow. And she was an absolute wedding guest. The reaction from Sophie, Lee, and their guests when Mavis made her grand entrance was pure, unfiltered joy the kind of laughter and delight that fills your whole chest. She was an absolute natural in front of the camera (honestly giving the bride a run for her money 😂).

And Mavis wasn't the only animal stealing the show — the ponies were equally gorgeous, and the tractors added the most perfectly North Yorkshire touch to the whole day. This wedding had personality in absolute spades.

Bongo Bingo 🥁🎉

Just when you thought this wedding couldn't get any more fun Bongo Bingo happened. If you haven't experienced Bongo Bingo before, imagine bingo, but make it absolutely, gloriously unhinged. Think live DJs, rave intervals, dance-offs, and the kind of afternoon entertainment that turns a wedding reception into a full-blown party. The marquee absolutely erupted guests of all ages were on their feet, bingo cards in hand, completely losing their minds in the best possible way. I honestly don't think I stopped laughing for the entire session. It was chaotic, hilarious, and completely brilliant and it set the tone for one of the most epic wedding evenings I've ever photographed. If you are not already considering Bongo Bingo for your wedding, consider this your sign. 🙌

The Reception

With Mavis having made her grand entrance and Bongo Bingo having well and truly broken the ice (not that this crowd needed it!), the celebrations continued with the kind of warmth and energy that only comes from a room full of people who genuinely love each other. The speeches were heartfelt, the dancing was brilliant, and the whole day had a joy to it that I felt from the very first moment to the very last.
