Rebecca & Jonathan | Pudding Poke Farm, Elwick
Rebecca and Jonathan's day started beautifully with a ceremony at St Peter's Church, Elwick. Bec was absolutely stunning in that sleek, deep V gown with her pearl necklace and the most gorgeous dried wildflower bouquet — lavender, craspedia, gypsophila, the works. Jonny and his groomsmen looked the part in black morning suits with those brilliant mustard gold waistcoats, matching every detail down to the dried flower buttonholes. And those steel blue bridesmaid dresses? Perfect.
After the church we headed back to Pudding Poke Farm — a working family farm that has been in the Fletcher family for over 100 years — for the reception. The marquee was set up beautifully on the farm grounds, fairy lights strung above, milk churns at the entrance lined with wildflower arrangements, and that big open sky stretching out behind everything. The confetti exit, the shots of guests raising glasses in the marquee, the speeches — all of it was just lovely.
And then we popped out for couple portraits.
Now, the plan was to use that brilliant old tractor as a backdrop — and we absolutely did, and that shot is one of my favourites from the whole year, Bec's veil streaming behind them, bouquet raised, sheep dotted across the valley. But on the way back through the farm, Bec and Jonny stopped to check on one of the cows.
She was in labour.
I mean.
A quick phone call was made. One of the groomsmen was quietly dispatched. And before we knew it, the farm was doing what it's done for over a century — carrying on, new life arriving, completely unfazed by the fact that there was a wedding going on.
I could have cried, honestly. That little calf, the look on their faces, the whole thing.
And if that wasn't enough, the happy couple were driven back to their guests in a farm buggy dressed up in white ribbons and bows, cheered in by everyone lining the path. It was joyful and daft and completely perfect.
Rebecca and Jonathan — thank you so much for inviting me into your world for the day. What an absolute privilege. Congratulations, Mr & Mrs Fletcher. 🥂
