Some love stories start with a grand gesture. A chance meeting, a holiday romance, a dating app match at just the right moment.
And then there's Rachel and Phil's story.
They sat in the same classroom. Walked the same corridors, sat through the same lessons, probably passed each other in the dinner queue. And never once spoke.
Years went by. Life did what life does — moved on, changed shape, took them in different directions. And then, somehow, when the time was exactly right, they found each other. The person they were always meant to love had been there all along.
I don't think I'll ever stop thinking about that. There's something quietly extraordinary about it — the right person, just the wrong moment. And then one day, out of nowhere, the moment finally arriving.
Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham held this story beautifully. It's a venue that feels like it was built for days like this — all leather armchairs and oil portraits and grand staircases that make a bride descending them look like an absolute vision. Rachel getting ready in the most stunning dress, shoes buckled in the copper bath suite. Phil fastening his cufflinks by the window, cool as you like. And a groom's party lined up outside the hotel looking like they'd stepped off a film set.
The bridesmaids were in the deepest bottle green — a colour that kept showing up through the day, from the ties to the bouquets to the ceremony room sash on the floor. The florals were all white roses, gypsophila and trailing greenery — classic, timeless, effortlessly elegant.
And then there were the dogs. Two tiny chihuahuas, dressed in full tuxedos, walking the aisle like they absolutely knew the assignment. Honestly one of my favourite things I've ever photographed. They were completely unfazed by the whole occasion, which is more than can be said for most guests.
The confetti walk outside the hotel doors, a lift-and-kiss like they had been part of a movie, the whole bridal party laughing in the gardens — every frame felt like it meant something. Because it did.
