Danielle & Dan's Wedding at Walworth Castle Hotel, Darlington
Some couples just have it. That warmth, that ease, that way of making everyone around them feel like they're exactly where they're supposed to be. Danielle and Dan are very much those people — and their May wedding at Walworth Castle Hotel was exactly the kind of day you leave feeling grateful to have witnessed.
The sun came out. The grounds looked glorious. And honestly, from the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be a very good day indeed.
The Details That Made It Theirs
Right from the getting-ready coverage, it was clear this wedding was going to be full of beautiful, considered details. Personalised wax seal favours, pearl jewellery, a "Bride" keepsake box, soft white and blush florals — everything had been chosen with real care and intention.
And then there was the dress. Danielle wore a bespoke, one-of-a-kind gown with the most beautiful draped cowl back I think I've ever photographed. It was elegant, modern and completely unique — because it was made just for her. In the soft light of Walworth's interior rooms, that dress was simply extraordinary.
Getting Ready at the Castle
Dan and his groomsmen were getting ready at the castle too — there's something I love about photographing the groom in those quiet moments before everything begins. Adjusting cufflinks, that first proper smile when he realises the day is actually happening. Dan's navy check suit was sharp and classic, and the joy on his face throughout the day was just infectious.
The Father-Daughter Walk
One of my favourite moments of the day was Danielle and her dad on the staircase, just before she walked in. That quiet moment between a father and his daughter — her bouquet of soft white and blush roses, his face full of pride — is one of those images that never gets old, no matter how many times I photograph it. At Walworth, with those grand interiors as backdrop, it's always something special.
A Ceremony Full of Sunshine and Smiles
The ceremony was held inside Walworth's beautiful rooms, all elegant white panelling and warm light. Danielle walked in to a room full of the people who love her most, and the look on Dan's face as she came down the aisle said absolutely everything.
After the ceremony, the castle's stone doorway framed one of the most joyful confetti moments I've captured at this venue — petals flying in every direction, the couple laughing and completely lost in each other. Pure magic.
The Magician, the Drinks Reception and the Sunshine
A drinks reception at Walworth in May sunshine is a genuine treat. Guests spilled out onto the grounds, and Danielle and Dan had booked the magician Luke Howells, to keep everyone entertained — including, memorably, a trick involving plumbing that absolutely had the crowd baffled and delighted in equal measure. There's always something special about watching wedding guests completely lose their minds over a magic trick. The laughter during that hour was something else.
Golden Hour in the Grounds
When the evening light came, we headed out into Walworth's beautiful grounds and the photographs practically made themselves. Danielle and Dan under the ancient trees, that golden light filtering through the canopy, the gazebo in the background — quietly romantic, completely natural. This is why I love this venue so much in late spring. The grounds at golden hour are simply breathtaking.
The bridesmaids in their dusky pink dresses alongside Danielle's ivory gown made for the most beautiful group portraits too — that soft, warm palette was perfect against the stone and greenery of the castle grounds.
Danielle & Dan — What a Day
Two of the loveliest people, a stunning bespoke dress, a plumbing magician, confetti, sunshine and golden hour portraits. This is what a Walworth Castle wedding looks like when a couple truly make it their own.
Congratulations again to Danielle and Dan — it was the greatest honour to be your photographer. 🤍
